The Orange Revolution
When Vidarbha won their first Ranji Trophy in 2017-18, it was a surprise. When they repeated in 2018-19, it was a statement. And when they claimed a third title in 2024-25, it confirmed Nagpur as a genuine powerhouse of Indian domestic cricket.
The 2025-26 title defence started strong โ Aman Mokhade scored three centuries (183, 176, 101*) and Nachiket Bhute's seam bowling (5/65 vs TN, 4/41 vs Jharkhand) gave the attack its bite. Four wins and two draws from seven matches yielded 31 points.
But 31 wasn't enough. Jharkhand and Andhra tied on the same total and edged ahead on tiebreaker. A single loss to Andhra in Round 6 proved the difference. The defending champions fell at the league stage, but the VCA's academy system ensures Nagpur remains a factory for domestic talent.
