The Heartland's Cricketing Might
Uttar Pradesh โ India's most populous state โ has been a Ranji Trophy presence since 1934. The one title (2005-06) is a source of both pride and frustration, given the talent pool from Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Allahabad. From Mohammad Kaif to Suresh Raina to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, UP has produced India internationals in every era.
The 2025-26 season had highs and lows. Rinku Singh lit up Round 1 with an unbeaten 165 against Andhra, and Madhav Kaushik smashed 185* against Nagaland. But an innings-and-301-run defeat to Jharkhand (bowled out for 176 and 84) and a loss to Vidarbha ended hopes of a knockout berth. UP finished mid-table in Group A.
